Amherstburg — The Windsor Construction Association has given a couple of awards to the United Communities Credit Union(UCCU) Complex for its geothermal aspect. The Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) announced the 2011 winners of the fifth GeoExchange Excellence Awards. ABS Group of Companies has won the CGC Top Geothermal Excellence Award 2011 for its work on the UCCU Complex.
Award of Excellence was also given to DeAngelis Construction, Norlon Construction, and Spriet Architects the Recreational/Entertainment/Hospitalities Facilities for the construction and design of the UCCU Complex. The town received the same award as owner of the facility.
“The United Communities Credit Union Complex is putting Amherstburg on the map for sports teams, user groups and organizations at many levels,” said manager of business development and programming for the town’s culture and recreation department. “The complex will allow the town to draw in tournaments and events both on a provincial, national, and international level. This is an exciting time to be a sport and recreation fan in Amherstburg.”
“This is an excellent achievement for all those involved in the design and construction of this facility. The Amherstburg community is extremely proud of the facility and the enjoyment it has brought to so many user groups who had much involvement during theplanning and design process,” added Mayor Wayne Hurst.
The prizes for excellence are awarded to regional geothermal heat pump projects which showcase both complexity and quality of installation and design. The award was presented to Imran Majeed for Advanced Building Solutions Inc. and ABS Green Inc.
The project was judged on originality, innovation, and technological advancement along with technical problems and solutions in the project. Comfort for occupants and users, complexity of the work, financial constraints, demonstrated energy and cost effectiveness were also among the judging criteria.
